HTML5's Best-Kept Secret: Using Microdata to Improve Your Search Results // TECH 754

Alexis Goldstein, Author, HTML5 & CSS3 for the Real World

Tuesday, July 5th, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Microdata is an often-ignored mechanism of HTML5 that allows a page to be "seen" more clearly by Google. It allows users to define page content using vocabulary that can be easily recognized by Google’s search function and incorporated into Google search results. Microdata can be used to designate an official URL, a bio pic, and product images, and to distinguish these from other page content. And because Microdata is a less-hyped feature of HTML5, your competitors may not have added it.

This course will provide students with a working understanding of Microdata. It will teach the various vocabularies used to better describe a page to search engines, whether it’s for a person, organization, product, or offer, and give real examples of how to add Microdata to existing pages.

Use the hashtag #gamicrodata to ask follow-up questions and continue the conversation.
